**Affiliate → Sales & Commissions** carries the affiliate program's
numbers, with time filters from Today to All Time.

## Stat cards & analytics panel

**Total Revenue**, **Total Earnings**, **Total Paid Commissions**, and
**Total scheduled payouts**, plus an affiliate revenue chart and an
Analytics panel breaking down Sales, Earnings, Paid Commissions,
Reverted Commissions, Payouts, Schedule Payouts, and Pending Requests.

## Reports

* **Sales** — every affiliate-attributed order: date, order ID,
  customer, affiliate, amount, and status (**Paid**, **Fraud**, **Fraud
  via IP**), with **Export** to CSV.
* **Commission Earnings** — the full
  [commission ledger](/affiliate/commissions#the-commission-ledger)
  with statuses and bulk actions.
* **Per-member stats** — each member profile shows their Sales,
  Revenue, Earnings, Paid, and Unpaid Commission, with payout and
  transaction history.

<Tip>
  Review **Total Earnings vs Total Paid Commissions** monthly — the gap
  is your outstanding liability. If it keeps growing, lower your
  scheduled-payout threshold or nudge affiliates to claim as store
  credit.

# Applications & signup form

Recruit affiliates with a signup form, then approve, reject, or auto-approve.

The affiliate program lets influencers and brand ambassadors apply to
promote your store. *(The affiliate side requires the Starter plan or
above.)*

## The signup form

Customize it under **Affiliate → Program → Affiliate Sign-up form →
Customize**. The editor has **Edit / Preview** tabs and a **Live /
Draft** status, with sections for the title, subtitle & description,
form fields, custom fields, request button, and Custom CSS. The form's
**Page Url** is shown for sharing.

**Built-in fields** (each with Enabled/Required toggles and editable
labels): First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Address lines, City,
State, Country, Zip code, PayPal email, Bank account number, Promotion
plan, Promotion website, and Facebook / Instagram / TikTok / YouTube
links.

**Custom fields** — add up to 20 extra questions with label,
placeholder, required flag, and validation (Text, Number, Phone, or
Regex with min/max length). Answers are stored on the member profile
under Member information.

<Tip>
  Ask "How will you promote us?" (Promotion plan) and require at least
  one social link. Two fields tell you more about application quality
  than anything else on the form.
</Tip>

## Reviewing applications

New applications appear under **Affiliate → Members** (tab **Pending
approval**) and on the dashboard's **Pending Applications** activity
tab. For each: **Approve**, **Reject**, or later **Disable** — with
bulk approve/reject for busy programs.

Approving opens **Create Affiliate Code** — set their code (5–12
letters/numbers) and optionally tick **Generate a coupon with this
affiliate code** so they can be tracked by coupon as well as link.

**Auto-approval:** under **Affiliate → Settings → Affiliate signup
form**, enable **Affiliate Auto-Approval** to skip manual review, and
choose who may join: **Anyone can become an affiliate** or **Only
existing customers with at least one order**.

## Troubleshooting

    Approval and rejection emails are templates you can disable —
    check **Affiliate → Emails** that "Notify the affiliate when his
    application is approved / rejected" are toggled on.

    Codes must be 5–12 characters, letters and numbers only — no
    spaces or special characters.

# Commissions & tiers

Commission rules, the commission ledger, and automatic revocation on refunds.

## Commission rules

Create rules under **Affiliate → Program → Commission → Create
commission**. Each rule has a **Title**, **Status** (Active / Draft),
and a commission type:

* **Percentage commission** — e.g. 10% of the affiliate sale
* **Fixed commission** — e.g. \$5 for each affiliate sale

**Conditions (optional)** let you build tiers and special cases, with
Match All / Match Any logic:

* Number of referrals · Referral sales amount by the affiliate
* **On every X sales** (e.g. a bonus on every 10th sale) · **On every X
  sale revenue** (e.g. every \$1,000 of revenue)
* Usage Limit for an Affiliate
* Referred-customer conditions: order value, total spent, selected
  products/variants, email domain

**Include / Exclude members** limits a rule to specific affiliates —
the mechanism behind VIP rates. **Active dates** schedule a rule, and
**Manage priority** decides which rule wins when several match.

<Tip>
  Build a ladder with member targeting: a base 10% rule for everyone,
  plus a 15% rule that includes only your proven top performers.
  Affiliates have a reason to push for the next tier.
</Tip>

## The commission ledger

**Affiliate → Sales & Commissions → Commissions** lists every earned
commission with its status:

| Status    | Meaning                                            |
| --------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| Pending   | Earned, awaiting approval (per your approval mode) |
| Approved  | Counted in the affiliate's payable balance         |
| Claimed   | Converted by the affiliate (coupon / store credit) |
| Cancelled | Revoked — manually or by auto-revoke               |
| Fraud     | Marked fraudulent; excluded from balances          |

Select rows for bulk **Approve**, **Cancel**, or **Fraud** actions.

**Approval mode** (Affiliate → Settings → Reward Approval): **Auto**,
**Manual**, or **Auto approve after delay** (1–80 days).

## Auto-revoke on refunds

Under **Affiliate → Settings → Revoke Commission**, pick which order
statuses count as unsuccessful — **Canceled**, **Refunded**,
**Partially Refunded**, **Voided** — and choose **Yes, cancel
immediately** to revoke the commission automatically when an
affiliate-attributed order turns into one of them.

<Tip>
  Pair auto-revoke with **Auto approve after delay** set past your
  return window. Together they make refund abuse structurally
  impossible instead of something you police manually.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="A sale wasn't attributed to the affiliate">
    Attribution needs the customer to arrive via the affiliate link or
    use their coupon. Check the **Sales** report; if the order used
    neither, no commission is created. Also check the rule's
    conditions and Include/Exclude member targeting.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A commission stayed Pending forever">
    Your approval mode is **Manual** — approve it in the ledger, or
    switch to **Auto approve after delay**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A refunded order still paid commission">
    Check **Revoke Commission** includes the Refunded status and is
    set to **Yes, cancel immediately** — and note revocation can't
    claw back money already paid out; the delay-based approval
    prevents that case.

# Affiliate links, coupons & customer discount

Link and coupon tracking, the shopper-facing discount, and social sharing.

Affiliates can be tracked two ways — and offering both maximizes
attributed sales.

## Affiliate links

Each approved affiliate gets a unique link. **Affiliate link
destination** (Affiliate → Settings) controls where it lands: **Home
page**, a specific **Product**, or a **Custom link**.

## Affiliate coupons

A coupon bound to the affiliate tracks sales even when no link was
clicked — essential for video, podcast, and offline promotion ("use
code SARAH10"). Manage them from the member's profile (**Your affiliate
coupons**): create a new coupon or bind an existing Shopify code.
Coupons can also be generated automatically at approval time.

<Tip>
  Give every serious affiliate both. Links capture click-through
  traffic; coupons capture "heard it on the podcast" traffic that
  links can never see.
</Tip>

## Customer Discount

**Affiliate → Program → Customer Discount** defines what the *shopper*
gets when buying through an affiliate code — the discount that makes
the code worth using:

* **Discount Value** — Percentage Discount, Fixed Discount, or No
  discount or reward
* **Limit to one use per customer**
* **Minimum requirements** — minimum purchase amount or item quantity
* **Combinations** — whether it stacks with product, order, and
  shipping discounts

The discount applies automatically at checkout for customers shopping
through an affiliate's link or code.

## Social share options

**Affiliate → Settings → Social Share Options** chooses which channels
affiliates see in their portal — Facebook, Twitter (with custom
message), WhatsApp (with custom text), and Email (with subject and
message). Messages support the shortcodes `{{affiliate_link}}`,
`{{store_url}}`, and `{{affiliate_code}}`.

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="The affiliate coupon stopped working">
    If the underlying Shopify discount was deleted, the Customer
    Discount card shows "Your discount code has been deleted" with a
    **Recreate** button. Coupons also expire per their validity
    settings.

  <Accordion title="Coupon sales aren't crediting the right affiliate">
    A coupon credits the affiliate it's bound to — check the binding on
    the member's profile, and make sure two affiliates aren't sharing
    a code.

# Payouts & payment methods

Pay affiliates via PayPal, Wise, Tremendous, store credit, coupons, or offline — one by one, in bulk, or on a schedule.

Everything payout-related lives under **Affiliate → Payouts**, with
three sub-tabs: **Payouts**, **Scheduled Payouts**, and **Payment
Methods**.

## Paying an affiliate

The Payouts table lists every affiliate with a payable **Balance**.

* **Pay** — pay one affiliate: enter the amount, add a comment, pick
  the method (**Pay via Paypal / Wise / Tremendous / store credit**,
  **Pay as Coupon**, or **Pay offline** for manual settlements).
* **Bulk Pay** — pay many at once: select members, choose one method,
  review, confirm. Members missing required details (e.g. no PayPal
  email) are listed and skipped safely.
* **View History** — the transaction record per member.

## Payment methods

Configure gateways under **Payment Methods** (each with Live/Sandbox
environment selection where relevant):

  PayPal requires approval for third-party Payouts API access — the
  configuration screen flags **"Action Required: PayPal API Access"**
  with instructions if your account isn't approved yet.

## Scheduled automatic payouts (PayPal)

In the PayPal configuration, enable **Automatic Payout Processing**:
pick the day of the month (1st–30th) and a **minimum payout threshold**
(e.g. only pay affiliates whose balance crossed \$100). Runs appear
under **Scheduled Payouts** with per-member transaction details.

If your PayPal balance can't cover a run, the app pauses with **"Your
auto payout is blocked"** — top up, tick the confirmation, and payouts
resume.

## Self-service conversion

Two settings let affiliates pay themselves from the portal:

* **Let affiliates convert the payout amount as a coupon** (Affiliate →
  Settings) — they turn earnings into a discount code
* Store Credit's **Allow affiliates to convert their balance into store
  credits from the Affiliate portal**

<Tip>
  Coupon and store-credit payouts turn commission liabilities into
  repeat purchases at your own margin — enable them even if you also
  pay cash. Many affiliates prefer instant store value over waiting
  for a transfer.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="A bulk pay skipped some members">
    The review step lists exactly who and why — usually a missing
    PayPal email. Affiliates add their PayPal address in their
    [portal](/member-portal); you can also nudge them from the
    member profile.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="PayPal payouts fail with a credentials error">
    Re-check the Client ID/Secret and the environment (Live vs
    Sandbox), confirm Payouts API approval, and note the error
    "Paypal does not support this store currency" — currency support
    is a PayPal-side limitation.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="An automatic run shows Failed">
    Open the run under **Scheduled Payouts → View transaction** to see
    per-member statuses — the commonest cause is insufficient PayPal
    balance, which also triggers the auto-payout block banner.
  </Accordion>

## Discount codes

Have a partner discount code? Enter it under **Apply Discount Code** on
the Billing page — applied codes show as a percentage off all charges.

## Downgrading & cancelling

* **Revert to free** — if you have active rewards that need a paid plan
  (referrer rewards, rules with conditions, free-shipping or
  free-product rewards), the app lists exactly which rules to update or
  remove before reverting.
* **Cancelling** — uninstalling the app ends billing.

<Warning>
  If you cancel with active members, their referral links and coupon
  codes stop working. Pause your promotion before cancelling so
  members aren't left sharing dead links.

# Custom sending domain

Send program emails from your own domain for better deliverability and trust.

By default, program emails come from the standard Shopjar sender.
**Settings → Email Domains** lets you send from your own verified
domain instead — better inbox placement, and every email reinforces
your brand. *(Growth plan)*

    Under **Email Sending Domain**, enter your domain and click **Add
    Domain**.

    <Warning>
      Use your real domain (e.g. `example.com`) — not your
      `.myshopify.com` admin domain. The app rejects Shopify admin
      domains.

  <Step title="Add the DNS TXT record">
    The page shows the **DNS Record Type**, **Name**, and **Value** to
    add at your DNS provider (each with a copy button). If your domain
    is managed through Shopify, the banner links to Shopify's DNS
    editing tutorial — or contact support via the Help widget and
    we'll add it for you.

    Tick **I've added these records** and click **Verify**.

    <Note>
      DNS changes take time to propagate — if verification fails, wait
      24–48 hours and try again. The record values must match exactly.

    Once verified ("Sending domain verified"), fill in **From email**
    (at your domain), **From name**, **Reply to email**, and **Reply to

Shopjar sends automated emails on both sides of the program. Each has
an on/off toggle and a full template editor — find them under
**Referral → Emails** and **Affiliate → Emails**.

Connect Shopjar to Klaviyo, verify the sync, and use every trigger and property in your flows.

Klaviyo is an email and SMS marketing platform. Connected to Shopjar, it
receives every referral and affiliate event from your store — so you can
trigger Klaviyo flows on program activity and personalize the emails
with member names, links, coupons, and amounts. *(Growth plan)*

## Step 1 — Get your Klaviyo API key

<Steps>

    **Settings**.

## Step 2 — Connect Shopjar

## Step 3 — Verify it's working

In Klaviyo, go to **Audience → Profiles**. After the first event fires
(or after you trigger some test activity), you'll see profiles carrying
Shopjar's custom properties. Open a profile to see its **activity
feed** — Shopjar events appear there with their properties, which is
also the easiest place to confirm exact property names while building
emails.

## How the data is organized

Shopjar sends two kinds of data:

* **Events (metrics)** — one per program moment, all named with the
  `Shopjar-` prefix. Use them as **flow triggers**. Their properties
  are referenced in emails as `{{ event.sj_event_... }}`.
* **Profile properties** — details stored on the member's Klaviyo
  profile, referenced as `{{ person|lookup:'sj_member_...' }}`:

## Build a flow: step by step

# The member portal

The self-service dashboard where members track links, rewards, and commissions — and how to customize it.

The portal is a "My Account" page for your program members — referrers
and affiliates alike. It answers the question you'd otherwise get by
email every day: *"Where do I see my rewards?"*

Your portal URL is shown under **Settings → Referral & Affiliate
Dashboard** (it ends in `/my-account`) — link it from your store's
footer or navigation. *(Essential plan)*

## What members see

* **Login** — password-free, via email OTP: the member enters their
  email, receives a one-time code, and is in. Enable this under
  **Allow Email OTP for Guest Login**. Only approved members receive
  codes.
* **Referral tab** — their referral link with share buttons, Total
  Sales and Total Rewards stats, and a reward history table.
* **Affiliate tab** — their affiliate link and coupons, stats
  (Commission Balance, Total Earnings, Total Paid), a transactions
  table, plus self-service actions:
  * **Convert as coupon** / **Convert as storeCredit** — claim part or
    all of their balance instantly (when you've enabled these payout
    options)
  * **PayPal email capture** — affiliates enter and update the email
    you'll pay them at

## Customizing the portal

**Settings → Referral & Affiliate Dashboard → Customize Referrer /
Affiliate dashboard page** opens a full editor with Edit/Preview and
Desktop/Mobile views. Every text on the page is editable — headings,
tab names, stat labels, table headers, empty-state messages, the claim
popups, and Custom CSS. The OTP login page and OTP email have their own
customizers (**Customize OTP Page**, **Customize OTP Email**).

For multi-language stores, **Manage Account Translations** (Settings →
General → Translations) translates the portal per locale.

## Headless & custom pages

Running headless, or want the portal inside an existing page?
**Affiliate → Settings → Embedded Pages** provides copyable embed URLs
for the affiliate portal and signup form.

## Troubleshooting

    The OTP email only goes to **approved** members — pending or
    rejected applicants see "you are not part of our referral /
    affiliate program". Check their status, and that OTP guest login
    is enabled.

  <Accordion title="A member sees a blocked message">
    "Your Account has been Blocked" means exactly that — unblock them
    from the member profile if it was a mistake. "Your
    referral/affiliate program is disabled" appears when the program
    toggle is off in Settings → General.

# Managing members

Member lists, profiles, manual creation, CSV import, tags, and blocking.

Members are the people in your programs — referrers and affiliates.
They're managed from two places: **Referral → Members** and
**Affiliate → Members** (the affiliate list adds a **Pending approval**
filter for applications).

## The members list

Columns: Name, Email, Sales Count, Link (with **Copy link**), Status,
and Action. Filter by status, search by name or email, and use bulk
**Approve** / **Reject** on selections. **Export** downloads a CSV of
your members.

## Adding members

**One at a time** — **Add Member** opens a form: name, email, type
(Referral / Affiliate), optional custom referral/affiliate code (5–12
letters/numbers), phone, and tags. Tick the **Send welcome email**
checkboxes to greet them on creation.

**In bulk** — **Import** accepts a CSV with at least `First_Name,
Last_Name, & Email` (download the sample file from the dialog). Limits:
1 MB, 500 records per file. Invalid rows are skipped, duplicates are
detected automatically, and you get a summary — imported / failed /
duplicates — plus an email when the import finishes.

<Tip>
  Migrating from another referral app? The CSV import is your path —
  export members there, match the three required columns, and import in
  batches of 500.

## Member profiles

Click a member to see everything about them: their links and codes,
stats (sales, revenue, rewards, referrals, earnings, paid/unpaid
commission), and tabs for **Sales**, **Rewards** (referral) /
**Commission** (affiliate), **Invites**, **Payouts**, and **Activity**.
From the profile you can also:

* **Edit** their details and codes
* Manage **tags** (create, add, remove) for segmenting members
* **Block / Unblock** — blocked members lose portal access and stop
  earning
* **Pay** an affiliate directly
* Manage their [affiliate coupons](/affiliate/links-coupons)

## Deleting members

Deleting is permanent and removes all related sales, commissions,
invites, and payouts for both programs. The confirmation asks you to
type the member's email, and offers **Expire affiliate coupons on
Shopify when deleting this member**.

<Warning>
  Prefer **Block** over delete for problem members — blocking stops
  everything while keeping the history you may need later.

## Auto-enrollment

**Referral → Settings → Auto member registration** automatically
enrolls customers in the referral program when they place an order —
the fastest way to grow your referrer base without asking anyone to
sign up.

    your rewards under **Reward Setup** — typically one **Referrer**

    and value.

      A proven starter combo: friend gets 10% off their first order,
      referrer gets a \$10 coupon after the friend buys. Both sides win,
      and the friend condition "first order only" keeps it honest.

    On the same Program tab, under **Branding & Popups**, make sure
    **Referral Landing Page** is enabled — its **Page URL** appears on

**Referral → Sales & Analytics** shows the program's performance:

  The ratio to watch: **Friend Rewards claimed vs Sales completed**.
  Many claims but few sales means friends grab the coupon but don't
  buy — try a stronger friend offer or a lower minimum purchase.

# Invites & fraud protection

Email-a-friend invites, verification, and the settings that keep your program honest.

## Referral invites

Members can invite friends by email straight from the landing page and
widgets. The **Invitation email** template (Referral → Emails) controls
what the friend receives — optionally including the coupon code itself
(**Include the coupon code in the invitation email**).

Guardrails are built in: self-invites are rejected ("Self invite is
invalid!"), duplicate invites are caught ("Invitation already sent!"),
and there's a maximum invite limit per member.

Track invites under **Referral → Sales & Analytics → Referral Invites**
— each row shows referrer, friend, and status (**Invited** →
**Successful** once the friend purchases). A per-member **Invite
History** lives on each member's profile.

## Fraud protection

Referral programs attract freeloaders; Shopjar ships several layers
(Referral → Settings → Fraud Protection, unless noted):

  Layer them by risk: the safe popup + first-order condition stops
  casual abuse; verified-email locking stops code resellers; IP
  detection catches determined self-referrers. Turn on what your
  margins justify.

**Link destination** (Referral → Settings → Referral link) controls
where the link lands: **Home page**, a specific **Product**, or a
**Custom link**. *(Starter plan)*

<Tip>
  Sending referred friends to your bestseller's product page instead of
  the home page shortens the path from click to cart — worth testing if
  one product dominates your sales.

## Branded referral links

**Use branded referral links** puts your own domain in the link
(`yourstore.com/ref`) instead of a generic short link
(`go.refrl.co/r/xxx`). Branded links build trust and get more clicks.
You can enable this anytime — old short links keep working. *(Starter
plan)*

## Referral codes

Codes are short (5–12 characters, letters and numbers only) and work
like a shareable password — useful in conversation, on social, or
anywhere a link is clumsy. Create or edit a member's code from their
profile (**Create Referral code**).

## Coupon code prefix

**Coupon code prefix** (Referral → Settings) adds your prefix to every
generated referral coupon — e.g. `REF_XXXX` — so referral discounts are
instantly recognizable in your Shopify discounts list and order reports.

# Reward rules

What referrers and friends earn — reward types, conditions, priority, and approval.

Reward rules define who earns what. There are two roles:

* **Referrer** (advocate) — earns a reward for each successful referral
* **Friend** — the person who was referred; earns a reward on their
  purchase

Manage rules under **Referral → Program → Reward Setup**. Click **Create
reward**, choose who gets it, and configure.

## Reward types

| Type                | Example                                  |
| ------------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Percentage Discount | 10% discount code for each referral sale |
| Fixed Discount      | \$10 discount code                       |
| Free Shipping       | Free shipping coupon                     |
| Free Product        | A product you choose, given as a gift    |

Each rule has a **Title** (e.g. "Give 10% off"), a **Status** (Active /
Draft), a **Value**, and optionally a coupon **prefix-based code**,
validity period, minimum requirements (purchase amount or quantity), and
discount **Combinations**.

## Conditions (optional)

Conditions control when the reward is earned. Combine them with **Match
All** or **Match Any**:

**Based on referrer parameters** — Number of referrals · Referral sales
amount by the referrer · Usage limit per referrer (how many times one
referrer can earn this reward)

**Based on referred person parameters** — First order (recommended for
friend rewards) · Email domain of the referred person · Each referral
order value should be… · Each referral order should have selected
products / variants

Operators include Greater Than (or Equal), Less Than (or Equal), Is any
of / Is none of, and Contains any/all / Does not contain for products.

<Tip>
  Keep **Reward only the customer's first order** checked on friend
  rewards. It's the single most effective anti-abuse setting — repeat
  customers can't farm new-customer discounts through referral links.
</Tip>

## Priority

With multiple active rules per role, **Manage priority** (drag to
reorder, then **Update order**) decides which rule wins when several
match.

## Approval mode

Under **Referral → Settings → Reward Approval**, choose how referrer
rewards are issued:

* **Auto** — automatically rewards the referrer
* **Manual** — you approve each reward yourself (under Referrer Rewards)
* **Auto approve after delay** — auto-approves after X days (1–80),
  useful to outlast your refund window

<Tip>
  Set the delay just past your return window (e.g. 30 days). Refunded
  orders then never produce paid-out rewards — no clawbacks needed.

    Two rules: a Friend reward (Percentage Discount, 10, first-order
    condition) and a Referrer reward (Fixed Discount, 10). The default
    onboarding setup — works for most stores.

  <Accordion title="Milestone reward for super-referrers" icon="medal" description="An extra $50 coupon at 5 successful referrals.">
    Add a second Referrer rule with condition **Number of referrals →
    Greater Than or Equal to → 5**, and set its priority above the base
    rule. Champions get recognized automatically.

  <Accordion title="High-value referrals only" icon="gem" description="Reward only when the friend's order is $75+.">
    On the referrer rule, add **Each referral order value should be →
    Greater Than or Equal to → 75**. Small orders don't trigger
    payouts; your economics stay safe.

    Choose **Free Product** and pick a low-cost, high-perceived-value
    item. Gifts are memorable and don't train customers to wait for
    discounts.

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="A reward wasn't issued after a referral sale">
    Check, in order: the rule is **Active**; the sale actually came
    through the referral link or coupon (see **Sales & Analytics**);
    all rule conditions pass (first-order, order value, products);
    approval mode isn't **Manual** with the reward waiting in Referrer
    Rewards; and the customer isn't blocked by fraud protection.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The wrong rule applied">
    Rules are evaluated by priority — open **Manage priority** and make
    sure the more specific rule sits above the general one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I can't delete a rule">
    Rules that already issued rewards can't be deleted — the app offers
    **Disable** instead, which keeps history intact while stopping new
    rewards.
  </Accordion>

The five places customers meet your referral program — and how to customize each.

All storefront pieces live under **Referral → Program → Branding &
Popups**. Each card has an on/off toggle and a **Customize** button that
opens a full editor with **Edit / Preview** tabs and Custom CSS.

  The Shopjar **app embed** must be on in your theme editor first — the
  app blocks toggles with "Turn on the Shopjar app embed in your theme
  editor before enabling this."

## Referral Landing Page

A dedicated page where customers discover your program and get their
link. It has a **Guest view** (signup form) and a **Logged-In view**
(their referral link and share buttons) — customize titles, fields,
buttons, terms, footer, and CSS. The page URL appears on the card once
live; share it anywhere.

## Safe Referral Reward Popup

The fraud-resistant reward claim flow: when someone clicks a referral
link, the popup captures and verifies their email, then unlocks the
discount only for first-time purchasers. Customize both steps (**Email
Form** and **Reward Display**), the prompt text, colors, and the coupon
presentation.

<Tip>
  Keep this popup on. Without verification, one person can claim
  friend rewards repeatedly — this single toggle is the difference
  between a referral program and a coupon leak.
</Tip>

## Floating referral button

A sticky button that stays visible while customers browse — one click
opens the referral flow. Configure its position (top/bottom/left/right),
text, and colors, plus the popup's form fields.

## Thank you page referral widget

Shows the program right after purchase — when excitement peaks. Choose
**In-Line** or **Pop-up** display. This widget needs a one-time
placement in Shopify's checkout editor:

the **Profile** page in the checkout editor, using the **Shopjar
Referral Widget** block. Customize the member and non-member views.

## Troubleshooting

    Enable the Shopjar **app embed** in the theme editor first — the
    dashboard Setup Guide's **Activate app** step deep-links there and
    **Refresh status** confirms it.

  <Accordion title="The landing page URL 404s">
    The Shopify page may have been deleted — the editor shows "This
    page has been deleted" with a **click here to regenerate** link.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The thank-you or account widget doesn't show">
    Both need their app block manually placed in the checkout editor
    (steps above) — enabling the card in Shopjar alone isn't enough.

Program toggles, reward calculation, portal, branding, and advanced options.

The app-level **Settings** page has five tabs: **General**, **Referral
& Affiliate Dashboard**, **Branding**, **Email Domains**, and
**Integrations**. (Each program also has its own Settings tab under
Referral and Affiliate — those are covered in their sections.)

## General

* **Referral Program** / **Affiliate Program** — master toggles for
  each program. At least one must stay enabled. *(Affiliate requires
  Starter.)*
* **Translations** — entry points to translate the referral pieces,
  affiliate pieces, and the account portal per storefront locale.
* **Calculate Reward or Commissions** — whether rewards and commissions
  are calculated on the **Order total (including taxes & shipping)** or
  the **Subtotal (excluding taxes & shipping)**.
* **Enable Referral And Affiliate Sale Tag** — tags attributed orders
  as "Referral and Affiliate Sale - Shopjar", so they're filterable in
  Shopify orders and reports. *(Essential)*
* **Enable IP based Advanced Fraud Protection** — IP tracking to detect
  self-referrals. *(Growth)*

<Tip>
  Calculate commissions on the **Subtotal**. Paying commission on
  shipping and taxes quietly inflates every payout — most programs
  never intend that.

## Referral & Affiliate Dashboard

The [member portal](/member-portal): your portal URL, the
portal customizer, **Allow Email OTP for Guest Login**, and the OTP
page/email customizers.

## Branding

**Store Branding** sets the logo and colors used across popups, pages,
forms, and emails. Choose a template — Default, Coral Pink, Herbal
Green, Golden Ochre, Crimson Red, Expresso Brown, Pacific Blue, Modern
Gray — or set custom **Primary Color**, **Primary text color**, and
**Secondary text color**, plus your logo (JPG/PNG). On save, choose
which surfaces to update: Reward Popup, Referral Widget, Landing page,
Affiliate signup form, and Email notifications. *(Essential)*

  <Accordion title="What's the difference between a referral and an affiliate?">
    **Referrals** are your customers sharing with friends — both sides
    typically earn a discount or gift. **Affiliates** are creators and
    partners who apply to promote you and earn cash commissions or
    coupons per sale. Shopjar runs both; the referral side is
    self-serve, the affiliate side has applications and payouts.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Widgets don't show on my storefront">
    Turn on the Shopjar **app embed** in your theme editor (dashboard
    Setup Guide → **Activate app** → **Refresh status**). The
    thank-you page and customer account widgets additionally need
    their app block placed in Shopify's checkout editor — see
    [Storefront widgets & pages](/referral/widgets-pages).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A referral sale wasn't tracked">
    Attribution needs the friend to arrive via the referral link or use
    a referral coupon. Check the coupon on the order, the member's
    status (approved, not blocked), and whether fraud protection
    flagged it — IP-flagged sales show as "Fraud via IP" and can be
    approved manually if legitimate.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A reward or commission wasn't issued">
    Work through: rule is **Active** → conditions pass (first-order,
    order value, products) → approval mode isn't **Manual** with the
    reward sitting in Pending → the member isn't excluded by a rule's
    member targeting.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Emails aren't being received">
    Check the template's toggle is on (each email can be disabled),
    remember new stores are limited to **10 emails/day** until
    verified, and consider a
    [custom sending domain](/emails/custom-domain) for better
    deliverability. In test mode, emails are never sent.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="An affiliate can't log in to the portal">
    OTP codes only go to **approved** members — check their status.
    Also confirm **Allow Email OTP for Guest Login** is enabled in
    Settings → Referral & Affiliate Dashboard.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Bulk payout skipped members">
    Usually a missing PayPal email — the review step lists who and
    why. Affiliates can add their own PayPal address in the
    [member portal](/member-portal).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A refund still counted toward rewards">
    Enable auto-revoke (**Affiliate → Settings → Revoke Commission**)
    with the Refunded/Canceled statuses, and use **Auto approve after
    delay** set past your return window so nothing is paid before
    refunds can happen.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why is a feature locked?">
    Locked features show "Included in Essential / Starter / growth" —
    that's plan gating, not a bug. See
